Who we are
Telos Academy is a not-for-profit education program offering full-time and part-time enrollment options in Tillsonburg, Ontario.
Telos - the ancient Greek word for “purpose” - is the guiding force behind everything we do.
We don’t just go through the motions or deliver a curriculum where students have to ask: “Why does this matter?”
Instead, students take ownership of their education as we guide them toward discovering their own unique skills and passions in pursuit of a fulfilling educational journey.

What Sets Us Apart?
Student-Paced, Mastery-Based Progression
Progression in core academics is based on mastery of the material, not age. Students work at their own pace to ensure they’re really learning the material. Our small mentor to student ratios mean students get focused attention, so we can meet every student where they’re at.
Learning by doing
Lectures and rote memorization don’t usually lead to deep learning. Instead, we utilize hands-on learning wherever possible.
Telos students build real life skills every single day, from embarking on an entrepreneurial endeavour to programming a robot, creating a bug habitat, or painting a masterpiece.
Project-Based Learning
Project-based learning is a key tenet of our curriculum. Students work on self-chosen, personally meaningful projects for an extended period of time and draw upon a wide range of skillsets in the process. Whether it’s creating a project to sell at one of our markets, creating an experiment for the science fair, or putting together a presentation for a real-life audience, students have a say in what they learn about and take ownership of their education.
Outdoor Education
You won’t find students stuck in desks at Telos Academy!
We believe that movement and nature are fundamental to education.
We typically spend at least 1/3 of our days outside.
No Testing or Grades
Studies show that most students forget the material they memorized shortly after tests are over. Testing also leads to unnecessary anxiety. Instead of tests or numerical grades, we use portfolio-based assessment as a compilation of student work to demonstrate progression over time.
Community Focused
Community stewardship is a big part of life at Telos Academy. We invite students to think about ways we can serve our community and take on service projects together.
